Slow going – Plan bogged down in protracted negotiations

AS HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY COMMUNICATED, the Munibung Hill Trail Design report is complete.

“Council staff are continuing the discussions with Munibung Hill Pty Ltd regarding the acquisition of easements,” said Steven Cowen, Community Land Planner (Sports) at Lake Macquarie City Council.

“These are considered essential to developing/constructing an integrated trail network across Munibung Hill, particularly in the southern areas, connecting the two areas which are the focus of the Trail Design Report.”

Steven went on the say that: “Further trail design/construction is dependent on future Council funding.  At this time, other recreation works are preferred in the Draft Operational Plan and Budget 2024-2025, that is on public exhibition from 26 March to Monday 22 April, 2024.”

“This project will be placed in the 4 year forward works program and recommended for further funding annually.”

 Management Plan progress

The property team at Lake Macquarie City Council is currently negotiating with landowners to acquire the easements necessary to permit the construction of the walking tracks at Munibung Hill, a Council spokesperson told Munibung Hill Conservation Society, Tuesday 23 January.

Prioritising these works will then enable a staged construction program to be prepared and implemented, as soon as funds are allocated, he said.
