Off the editor’s radar
Not even an honourable mention is made of one of the most prominent and most visited landscapes in Lake Macquarie.
WHAT IS IT about Munibung Hill that can bring forth words: Jewell in the crown, and many other accolades from visitors, and yet, complete obscurity when it comes to publications such as the ‘Lake Macquarie Adventures for Kids’ book that is being prominently displayed and promoted in Lake Mac libraries.
We think it’s a great publication. We highly recommend it as a guide to exploring nature and experiencing the wonderful landscapes around Lake Macquarie. But it’s a shame to ignore what others consider is a landscape with a long indigenous heritage and diverse ecological qualities – and comes with a ‘HIGHLY RECOMMENDED’ tagline.
According to the publicity … Lake, bush or sea? There’s a Lake Mac adventure waiting for ME!
Lake Macquarie comes to life with vibrant colour and detail in our new, fun-filled children’s picture book.
Written by Lake Mac Libraries and illustrated by Chrissy McYoung, ‘Lake Macquarie Adventures for Kids’ is full of surprises (and engaging activities!).
Each double-page spread features a different part of Lake Macquarie, from Rathmines Park to Swansea Channel, and Redhead Beach to the Watagan Mountains.
The illustrations are dense with colour and detail, offering young readers a chance to explore the city through words and pictures.

WHEN IT COMES to making a decision about where to go walking in the Newcastle / Lake Macquarie areas, Munibung Hill rates as a highly desirable destination, especially for family based outings.
Considering Munibung Hill is not listed in any of the Lake Mac Council walking guides and is nowhere to be found in any official tourism publication, we reckon this is a credit to the outstanding intrinsic qualities of Munibung Hill.
