Bee-haviour and democracy

It’s not too late to mention that Monday (May 20th) marked World Bee Day. It’s  something of a cliche to say that every day is bee day since the same thing is said for multiple designated days within each year.

But we think bees deserve special mention for the tireless work they do ensuring that our lives are richer – in every sense of the word – for having them around.

Our attention has been drawn to the work of Thomas Seeley, Professor of Biology, at Cornell University. His book The Secret Life of Bees is a revelation for anyone fascinated by these amazing creatures of nature.

To get an appreciation of his research listen to the ABC RN interview with Phillip Adams here: Wild honey bees ; and read more including about honeybee democracy, here: Smithsonian.com story
