The ancient ‘new’ art of economic stability
Uniting our modern-day idea of the circular economy with learnings and knowledge from Indigenous cultures can be the answer to a more nature connected economic system. Indigenous cultures take only what they need, so that resources can regenerate and they think seven generations ahead. By keeping nature and equity at the heart of development, communities were aware that resources are limited and must be taken care of.

Joni Mitchell got it right
How old is the universe? What are we made from? The science is clear and the song says it very succinctly.

We are stardust, we are goldenWe are billion-year-old carbonAnd we’ve got to get ourselvesBack to the garden.

From Woodstock, written by Joni Mitchell, made popular by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

A WELCOME TO COUNTRY often involves a smoking ceremony. This can be described as a way to cleanse all the bad spirits out of you, and mother earth welcoming us to this country. A Welcome to Country is delivered by an Elder and can be a spoken Welcome to Country in traditional language.
Only Traditional Owners/ Custodians of the land on which an event takes place, can deliver a Welcome to Country.

An Acknowledgement of Country is spoken at meetings or events. This can be done by anyone wishing to show their respect to the Traditional Occupiers.
At MHCS we do an Acknowledgement of Country that recognises Traditional Occupiers on the land where we care for the plants and animals, and our continuing connection with First Nations Peoples    Ref: Landcare.
