A group excursion with a modicum of exertion
A bush ‘n’ burbs loop, this time with a much larger group. Seventeen people – members of East Lakes Walkers – set out on 27 October, from Speers Point park and walked along the lake side to the lights – once known as ‘Stinking Corner’ because of seaweed that would wash up onto the shore and stink to high heaven (it doesn’t happen so much these days), then along Metcalf Street, into Lakelands. Turn left onto Kantalong (Spotted Gum) Walk and up the steep eroded track to the summit – Ocean View Lookout. Then south along Songline Heritage Walk to Biraban Lookout at the southern end. Return via the Farm Street Reserve tracks, into the streets and to the start at Speers Point. All up a total of just under 10 km. Time approximately 3 hours.

Here we go loop de loop, here we go loop de li
This walk combines bush with ‘burbs to create a circuit. Head down Main Road, Boolaroo, along to Speers Point, then head into the bush at the end of Farm Street. A steady gradual climb up to the north-south ridgeline onto a walk MHCS has named the Songline Heritage Walk, then down the Wantalong (Wattle Tree) Walk to Boolaroo. This is the more gentle gradient – to do the walk the other way around would require a steeper climb up to the Songline Heritage Walking track.
