Picturesque place to pop the question

A picturesque place to pop the question
When you’ve got a proposal to make, what better place, with panoramic views as the backdrop, than at the top of Munibung Hill.

THERE ARE HEAPS of reasons why people venture onto Munibung Hill and into the bush. And it’s not unusual for this to be expressed in terms of them feeling an affinity, a relationship with nature – call it ‘nature nurture’ if you will.

But it’s not often that this relationship way of thinking, extends to taking the next step in the personal relationship of a couple rather fond of each other.

Mitch Hillier tells the story of how this unfolded
seven years ago at Munibung Hill ….

On April 8, 2018, I climbed Munibung Hill with my then-girlfriend, Lauren, for a memorable hike and a chance to admire the lake. Little did she know I had a ring tucked away, waiting for just the right moment.

We started our walk from Kanangra St, Lakelands / Warners Bay, making our way up the steps and steep incline to reach the ridge. We followed the tracks out to the lookout (which I believe is Biraban Lookout according to the online maps) while I searched for the perfect spot to propose.

Eventually, we found ourselves back at what I think is Oceanview Lookout. I set up my camera, hoping to capture the moment with a photo (GoPros have improved a lot since then) and surprised her by asking the big question. She said, “Yes!”

This place holds special meaning for us; overlooking the areas where we grew up and first met in high school. At the time we were living in Mayfield but six years on, and after living in the US for 3 years, we now live at the base of Munibung Hill in Warners Bay and you could probably see our house from where we were standing.

Lauren and I have just had our first child and we look forward to hiking Munibung Hill with her in the future.

Sonder – Got a story?
Maybe making music at Munibung Hill? Something to share?
We’ve heard anecdotally of people being married on Munibung Hill,
but we don’t have any first hand reports.
