Daylighting overgrown waterway,

Feel good by doing good
Being in the company of good people working for the common good, helps make us feel good inside.

If you are reading this and thinking, gee I could give these happy Landcare folks an hour or so once a fortnight, get in touch … Call Heather on 0438 288 617   All up, taking into account public holidays and weather events, it works out to be less than a day a year.

Other Landcare groups include: Biddabah Creek Landcare – at the Biddabah Wetlands site in Windross Drive, Warners Bay, who meet for an hours each Monday morning, and Friends of Munibung Hill Landcare group off Parkstone Close, Speers Point – Gavin Ord and Andrew Slee.   Text to MHCS: 0437 543 465 or email: munibunghcs@gmail.com

Daylighting an overgrown weedy waterway

THE TASK AT HAND was to clear weeds from the creek banks to expose the bed of the creek allowing it to flow freely into the wetland downstream.

The job of clearing Crofton weed from a creek bed might seem like a thankless one, but imagine ourselves in the place of the creek, smothered in sores – weeds in this case – and what a relief it would be to have the smothering weeds lifted from our shoulders. Mel, with the help of her fellow Biddabah Creek Landcarers Vina, Julie and Gabby (out of picture),  has helped to re-daylight this section of Biddabah Creek.

Daylighting is an essential aspect of a healthy waterway.

Light and air – in the case pictured above – where the water will enter the wetland over a stony area, will help to aerate and put oxygen into the water, assisting aquatic plants to breath and waterbirds to thrive.
